About the Artist

Hello! I'm Rachael and welcome to my website!

I'm a self-taught abstract artist orginally from London, but now living in the Surrey countryside. I've been creating my original pieces since June 2019, though I’ve always been a creative girl – it just got put on hold for a few years while “adulting” occurred!

The medium I mainly use is alcohol inks and I absolutely love using them. The beauty of this medium lies in its unpredictable nature, making no two piece the same. Any piece I create is unique and one of a kind! But I also love exploring new mediums and keeping those creative juices flowing.

At the start of this journey, I was completing my University degree in Psychology. That’s how I found this love of creating again. I decided to go to university as a mature student, to obtain something I had always planned to do. But during my first year, I felt something was missing. My brain was battling with having to be so analytical and academic all the time. So, I returned to art, and started creating abstract pieces as a way of silencing the racing of my mind and to give me an outlet when university was overwhelming. And now, I couldn’t imagine my life without it.

While I am occasionally inspired by outside influences, such as nature, I am mainly inspired by how I want the mood of a piece to be and colours in their own right. I just adore seeing a blank canvas become exploded with colour and life. And the beauty of abstract art is that you could look at a piece multiple times and see something different each time.

I am generally drawn to a darker colour palette and love throwing metallic colours into my pieces to lift it. But I do take pleasure in creating bright pieces as well. Like I said, I’m inspired by what the mood of a piece will be, so it’ll entirely depend on that!

I enjoy exploring new styles, compositions, and colours, as well as creating brand new pieces by commission based on my previous work.

Thank you for stopping by and get in touch if you want to chat about my work!
